Description:
Parade, a captivating and immersive performance, serves as a vibrant celebration of the kaleidoscope of human diversity. Drawing inspiration from the world of fashion runways, it transcends conventional boundaries to illuminate the profound beauty of the human spirit. The cast, spanning ages from 20 to 60, transforms the stage into a "fashion show of life," showcasing the vast spectrum of our human potential. This multidisciplinary spectacle seamlessly intertwines dance, drag performance, theatre, and live music, guiding the audience through a mesmerizing journey across conceptual landscapes, ensuring a unique and distinctive experience with each performance.
At the heart of Parade is the symbolic wedding dress, a powerful representation of transformation—a chrysalis that lays the foundation for the entire show. The iconography of the wedding dress undergoes a compelling deconstruction throughout the evening, shifting its visual context and challenging preconceived notions about what, why, and who wears it. The performers engage in a captivating passage of re-dressing and undressing, seamlessly transitioning from one character to another in front of the captivated audience.
Inspired by Christian Dior's groundbreaking fashion shows held in manoirs, Parade playfully subverts traditional show codes, creating an engaging and immersive experience. Set in a multi-roomed space, live feed projections break the confines of the traditional stage, offering glimpses behind the scenes or into a 'backstage dressing room.' Incorporating elements from haute couture, burlesque cabarets, underground happenings, and rock 'n' roll shows, Parade weaves a surreal tapestry, transporting the audience down a unique and festive "rabbit hole."
Following the isolation of the global pandemic with a trend toward increasingly digitized and radicalized social spaces,
more than ever we feel the need to exercise and celebrate an embodied togetherness. With defiant urgency and
radical hope, Parade creates a line of movement that leads the audience to a transcendent ‘letting go’ of what divides us.
